Loophead Studio was set up in West Clare in 1999 by Naomi Wilson and Brian Doyle, both graduates from the National College of Art & Design in Dublin. After spending 10 years in in New York, they returned to the remote fishing village of Carrigaholt and set up probably the westernmost animation studio in Europe! Since then Brian and Naomi have collaborated on several short films inspired by living on the Loop Head peninsula.

Coming from a background in Fine Art Sculpture, use of materials is important as is the aesthetic of the hand-made object, applied in this case to film making. Great attention is paid to detail in every aspect, especially to texture in both sound and visuals. Tensions between man and nature are recurring themes as is the presence and power of the atlantic ocean. There is an interest too in folklore and in exploring the significance of what in contemporary Ireland is potentially being lost.

Each film in its own way takes the viewer off on a magical dream-like journey. Loophead Studio attempts a poetic approach to filmmaking, hoping both to respond, and to add to the richness of living in a very remote part of the west coast of Ireland.
